The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has published a list of centres to be used for mobile biometric voter registration on selected dates beginning this Sunday till the 31st of this month. According to ZEC Acting Chief Elections Officer Jane Chigidji, the centres will open from 0700 to 17 00 hours daily during the course of the exercise.
She further stated that those whose national identity cards inscribed alien can only register to vote if they have attained 18 years and have long birth certificates that indicate they were born in or outside Zimbabwe but one of their parents is Zimbabwean.
The group can also register to vote if they were born in Zimbabwe and one or both of their parents are citizens of any Southern African Development Community country and there were residents in Zimbabwe on May 22 2013 when the new national constitution was published.
Mobile biometric voter registration is part of this year’s election roadmap.
